Spelling support

Spelling is hard—but it becomes far less frustrating when students understand how words actually work.

Every lesson is built around the learner. Beginning spellers may work on letter identification, phonemic awareness, and hearing the sounds inside words. Older students may focus on vowel patterns, spelling rules, breaking longer words into syllables, word jumbles, and the specific mistakes showing up in their own writing.

Reading support

We begin by figuring out what is getting in the way, then set clear goals that make sense for your child.

Depending on the learner, sessions may target phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, reading speed and accuracy, sight-word recognition, vocabulary, expression, context clues, summarizing, or comprehension. I use guided reading, shared reading, questioning, and games to keep students involved while we build real skills.

Writing support

Writing lessons meet students exactly where they are—from building a first sentence to organizing more advanced work.

Beginning writers may practice sentence order, time-order words, capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and basic sentence structure. Older learners may work on narrative and expository paragraphs, facts versus opinions, introductory elements, vocabulary, essays, or a writing assignment they are struggling to complete.

Meet your tutor

I’m Amy Pape—but my students call me Teacher Amy.

I’ve been teaching online for 12 years, taught elementary classes in the public-school system, and have spent my professional life working with children and education in one way or another. I also homeschool my own two children and lead our local homeschool co-op.

Some of my experience is professional, and some is deeply personal. My son is dyslexic, and teaching him to read required an immense amount of patience and understanding. Today, he loves reading. That experience reinforced something I have always believed: helping a child develop a love of learning matters just as much as teaching the skill itself.

I hold a Master of Science with an emphasis in General Psychology. My graduate research focused on isolation in online learning and how teachers can create a genuine sense of connection and community—even through a screen.

I was born to be a teacher. My lessons are safe, engaging, and designed around the learner in front of me. I use movement, colorful visuals, books, songs, rhymes, and plenty of conversation so students can learn in the ways that work best for them.
